About Department of Food Safety
The Directorate of Prevention of Food Adulteration was constituted by the Govt. of NCT of
Delhi vide notification No. F.4(178-CC(V) dated 19.06.1978 and renamed as Department of Food Safety vide notification No.
F7 (171)/2011/Admn/PFA/13661-73 dated 21.03.2012. The erstwhile Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 and Rules, 1955 made
thereunder have since been repealed and a new Act, namely, Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and Rules/Regulations 2011 made thereunder
have come into force w.e.f. 5th August, 2011 in the NCT of Delhi. The endeavor is to achieve an appropriate level of protection of the health
of citizens by ensuring availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption as per the Food Safety and Standards laid down under the Food
Safety and Standards Act and Rules/Regulations made thereunder.
